Lore

A well-known tavern keeper from her world, a fantasy land of farmfolk and beasts. Her tavern, The Clover and Bell, sat at the crossroads between pasture and forest, a place where farmers, traveling bards, beastfolk, and the occasional wandering spirit could rest.
She loved it deeply. Every creaking floorboard, every chipped mug, every familiar face felt like home to her.
She wasn't just known for her food and drink. She had a special talent for listening. Travelers often left lighter than when they arrived, convinced their worries had somehow been eased by her calm presence and steady smile. Some said the tavern itself responded to her mood, the hearth would burn warmer when she laughed, and the windows would rattle softly when she worried.
One evening, during a harsh storm, a stranger burst through the tavern door, muddy, shaken, and unmistakably a human. He was a hiker from another world, lost in his own forest and desperate for shelter. Behind him had stood a doorframe tangled in ivy and glowing faintly with warmth. As he went through, he found himself in the tavern.
He stayed longer than expected. The magic sustaining the portal wavered with every passing minute. During his stay, he shared stories of the human world, towering cities made of stone and glass, glowing lights that chased away night, metal beasts that carried people across great distances, and lives lived at a pace that never seemed to slow.
The farmfolk gathered night after night to listen to his stories. Kooro had so many questions. About people, loneliness, about why someone would wander so far from home. The hiker, in turn, learned from her as well. About magic, shared meals, and the way a place could feel alive if cared for properly.
As the days passed, the doorway began to stabilize and the truth settled heavily over the tavern: the door would not remain open forever.
The hiker begged that Kooro come on an adventure with him. Not out of desperation, but understanding. He'd seen the way she'd linger after his stories would end and the way her eyes drifted toward the doorframe whenever he spoke of roads beyond the horizon.
Still, she hesitated. Leaving the tavern meant leaving her people. Leaving safety. Leaving the life she'd built with her own hands. For days, she'd walk the fields, memorizing the sound of the bell above the tavern door, the smell of the breeze.
In the end, it was the farmfolk who convinced her. They reminded her that the tavern would wait. That comfort wasn't just a place, but rather something she carried within herself.
With a promise to return and the bell from her tavern tied securely around her neck, she stepped through the portal beside the hiker just as the magic began to collapse.
The human world was louder, faster, and much colder than she'd expected. Without the steady hum of magic, she had to learn how to survive differently. But wherever she went, people found themselves lingering longer, talking more openly, feeling oddly at ease in her presence.
Kooro is no longer just a tavern keeper, nor a traveler by nature. She walks the space between worlds, guided by stories, kindness, and the quiet hope that one day she'll find a door back home.
